People looking to be treated for the cause of their own back pain should look to treat their own case on an individual bases, and advocate for their own health care practitioners to do the same. The cause of back pain could be structural, nutritional, or emotional. A doctor or other professional should treat each of their patients/clients on a case by case basis, and you should advocate for your self for this type of treatment. Is the cause of your back pain simple wear and tear that you will just have to manage the best you can, or can your discomfort truly be minimized or eliminated? In order to get closer to the source of your problem, let's look at some of the causes of back pain.
Structural. If the cause of your back pain is structural, then that means you may have a muscle strain in one of your back muscles, of you may have joint damage in one of the joint structures protecting the spinal canal. If your problems are muscular, they are more likely to heal on their own, and you may be able to feel better faster. Joint problems can be trickier, and these types of injuries may take longer to heal. Take as much time as you can to learn as much about the structure of the back the muscles that support it. The more you know, the better able you will be to advocate on your behalf.
If there is a problem with your back, your muscles surrounding them may become sore and achy. Perhaps this type of muscle ache is due to overwork or strain from an acute injury. In these types of cases, rest will be the most likely course of action. But if the source of your problem is the compression of the nerve root surrounding the spine, then muscle pain may actually be a symptom of your problem. Some patients that withdraw from exercise and activity in these cases may actually exacerbate their problems, but making their muscles weaker, and in turn make their spines weaker. Don't just count on doctors and medicine to fix your problem , but learn about it yourself. Now I'm not saying that healthcare practitioners won't be able to help you and make you better, I am just saying that you should supplement your assistance from them with education on your own behalf.
